Long Beach Grand Prix (56k death)

So all this weekend I was at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. My family got me some good tickets for my birthday so I called in sick to work on Friday so I could get the most out of them. It was a great weekend overall, just really good fun alround. I hate to admit it but Champ Car/Long Beach puts on a much better show than F1/Indianapolis....but perhaps I'm still bitter over what happened last year at the USGP. I took over 450 pictures throughout the weekend so here's a selection of my favorites.

We'll start off with some shots of the scene around the track:

Rolex Series (these guys do a lot of bump-n-grinding..real fun to watch):

My first taste of drifting...fantastic show :

SPEED World Challenge GT Race:

Champ Car:

Yeah, unfortunatelly Igor didn't do so well. I was at turn one and from there it looked like he was having a little trouble with the brakes. Kept locking them up and what not. That close-up picture (third from bottom) is actually where he over-shot the turn on like lap 3. Fantastic race though.

well the AFteam is a rookie team, and as far as newcomers go, the AF team had really achieved a lot getting this far, being able to tackle the problems that come up so far. hopefully they'll figure out this brakes stuff too, and place better times in future races.

Re: Long Beach Grand Prix (56k death)

nice pics, i love how you get to see like 3-4 different racing events when you buy a ticket to a major one. i got to watch formula ford, can-am, and ferrari challenge races when i went to the montreal grand prix (formula 1) in 2001. i got a bunch of pics but some asshole took them out of my locker at the end of the year.

Re: Long Beach Grand Prix (56k death)

Great photos. I was at the event, but I spend 95% percent of my time at the races in our pit, then the other 5% moving from one place to the other.

We were having some brake issues. They actually occured during qualifying, and we flat spotted the tires in qualifying. That really threw us off. We were actually 4 seconds faster in the race than we were in qualifying.

We are learning, getting faster, and getting better every practice, every qualifying, every race. We started 24th, and finished 17th.

Nice pic's,

<useless news>If you look at the drift dodge viper SRT-10 and race viper SRT-10 the Drift viper is a production hard top like what you can buy off the lot the other is the comp coup only people with race licenses can buy. Last year the rules of the drift racing changed and they couldn’t race tube chassis after last year.</useless news>

Re: Long Beach Grand Prix (56k death)

Those are some amazing shots. I am jealous, would love a chance to bounce down there and enjoy the nice weather. There is something magical about the roar of the engines that no television broadcast is ever going to be able to capture. You also have a flair for photography

Re: Long Beach Grand Prix (56k death)

I agree Hall1, you will never be able to live that feeling over the television until you don't hear that real roar... :/
