What kind of car do you have and what are you going for? Drifting? Drag racing? Show?

Doesn't matter what t's for, I would get the rb25det cause of the larger displacement.

well i got an Sr20DET in my 240 and let me just say that it give so much kick on high rpm starts.I swapped in a S15 spec motor which took 3 days to actually make it fit under the damn hood by professionals. But it gives off a sweet 250 HP from just the motor.Only problem i have with my motor is that i'm still trying to get used to the quicker shifting after the first gear. After first gear, my RPM's drop only about 1000 which raises rather quickly.I didn't really notice how small the power band was between 1st and 2nd, but as soon as you hit 2nd gear, any civic, prelude, or anyother type of rice rocket is in your rear view mirror looking like a spec.Thank god for my shift light, or else i think i would be shifting past redline.still have some getting used to, but in about a month i won't even need my monster tach.

on the S13 Sr20det motor it is 205hp stock. But i paid alot more money and it took alot more effort for me to get the S15 spec motor which is 250 stock.I just got a newer version of the motor which came with more HP, but it was also harder to it into my car especialy with a 180sx tranny.I had to get a better tranny and the company who sold me the motor said the 180sx tranny is alot more durable then the us 240sx tranny. So basicaly i'm jsut trying to JDM my entire car.I really want to get an S14 front conversion with a jdm 180sx back.My dream is to own a sil-eighty and i'm halfway there with power checked off.Now i just need to save for the outer cosmetics and my dream is complete.

fuck yeah, your fucking awesome joebowlr, id go with the s15 motor anyday, glad to see that we have something in common for the love of the s15 sr20det. question though, how come u didnt stick with the six speed tranny (even though i heard its not all that durable compared to other nissan trannys), a 240sx with a six speed would be like the girl next door with the perfect package all around (if u know what i mean)

The shop i ordered the motor through didn't include a trannny so i bought a tranny that they suggest would be good for the engine.I checked around other places and found many include the S15 tranny, but they are not guarented with warrenty or anything like that.ALso it is not as easy to find an S15 motor with the 6-speed tranny since they get swapped up pretty quick. The store was also telling me how if i wanted to wait for a 6-speedi could, but there would be problems with it.They told me about how many customers with the 6-speed were have power band problems. They were'nt getting the full potential out of there engine which lead to them spending more money on the mechanics trying to fix the problem. So i just told them to hook me up with a tranny that will last for a goodwhile and since i bought an older 180sx tranny, i have a 5 year waranty that says if for any reason the transmission fails to respond they will replace it free of charge.I was like F@#k yeah.
Oh and i fnaly got that whole 2nd gear issue fixed.I guess the person who owned the tranny was experimenting with the gear ratios for the purpose of drifting. The mechanic i went to told me that alot of people who enjoy drifting make their 2nd gear real short so they can take corners at 3rd gear,shift-lock down to 2nd gear, shift back up to 3rd, then accelerate out of the corner.I decided to keep this setting to try it and get a feel for it. |

RB25DET is king. I have one in my 240SX and haven't been beat by a SR yet....they haven't even come close. Http://240Skyline.nissanpower.com

Dude, I can get the S13 SR engine (205hp stock) for about $2500, what's the going price for a S15 spec motor with tranny?

There's a noticeable difference in price...SR's ranging from 2k-3k while the RB25DET ranges from 3.5k to about 6k
So whatever fits your budget more...oh and RB parts will be more expensive |

It depends on where you want to go wiyh your project. If you want more power i would suggest going with an RB26dett.
