Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

For those interested, I received the Hobby Design kit. Here's a few pictures: (sorry for the size, but there's a lot of details to be seen and 1999 don't have any picture of it)

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

Excellent review. I am right now building the kit and to be honest - I don't see the point investing in this expensive etch. Only to replace superb Tamiya parts in plast with similar parts in etch. Not my cup of tee.
Give me a Top Studio kit where they include parts which are MISSING in the kit. (nothing is missing in this kit)

Sorry - have to agree....
A fantastic etch set that replaces fantastic kit parts.
Pointlessly expensive.
There are one or two bits I would use, but the majority seem replacements for no real reason.
The Tamiya kit really is THAT good.
However, I really hope you prove me wrong and build a MEGA stunning model, which you probably will.

Roy.

I think you are a bit of a bad faith here. Ok, i will admit there's some useless parts supplied, but saying it's useless or only 2-3 parts will be used is a bit too much to say.

There's many part that will add to the kit, as awesome as it is. There's even space for more details. (I'm a fan of TopStudio set!) All the radiator meshes, the backplane shield, wiper, engin details will make the tamiya kit better.

And don't forget, it's a $60 P/E set, not a super detail like SMS used to be for the Porsche that cost more than the kit itself. Is it a must? Sure not. Is it worth it? I think so yes. I will see when I build it, but with my initial inspection, it will worth the ticket price imo.

Vric, you have echoed my sentiments exactly, I couldn't agree with you more.

Thankyou for the very useful post, If I hadn't already ordered a set your pics would have made me do so anway.

Amazing kit that 1/12 Enzo, I'd love to make one. But right now I don't think I have to skill and certainly not the tools to give it any sort of good justice.

But good luck with it and I look forward to see it done.

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

Here is a quick semi-review in pictures for those interested in the Hobby Design brake kit.

This is the result after spending a couple of enjoyable hours at the bench.

As nice as the plastic kit parts are I think these are a definite improvement for an outlay of about $35.......

and before we get all the posts bashing these "useless" , "pointless" & "overpriced" products lets put that into perspective in modelling terms.

AU$35..... thats $10-$15 LESS than a current Revell US car kit or slighly more than 2 cans of Tamiya spray paint.

Most online retailers have it but prices vary dramatically so it pays to shop around.

Here's a link to the set at HobbyEasy

I never ordered from hobbyeasy. Is what you see in stock or it's not that often updated and I will receive a cancellation email?

They have the best price for the PE brake Set and have a few hard to find kit.

Hobby Easy is very good to deal with. If they show something as being in stock then its a pretty safe bet it is........ Ive had more than 20 orders with them totalling over 200 individual items and everything has always been in stock.

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

For those following along at home... Tuner Model Manufactory has just released a neat little detail set for the 1/12 Enzo.

It helps address a couple of small details that I thought were needed but were not included in Hobby Designs PE set..... namely the steering wheel buttons/markings, exhaust manifold ID plates .

You will also find decals for the battery and a whole bunch of other neat little markings absent from the kit, Body decals to replicate the prototype Enzo and a More realistic mini replica Ferrari key blade to replace the plastic one in the kit.

Not a huge detail set but an interesting little addition. I paid around $12 but I've seen other online retailers listing it for more than double, so shop around.

And as a bonus.... the instructions look to be a good source for reference pics.

SMS finally released their Carbon decals set for exterior but more interesting (at least for me) the interior part.

Anyway know a retailer with stock that don't charge $22 to ship 6 simple sheets of decals?
