I bought a spare keyless entry remote for my 98 Blazer. Wondering if anyone knows how to program it? I have search the web and cant find an answer. I also dont want to pay a GM mechanic for 30 seconds worth of work. Any help appreciated.

Im not 100% sure on this, but im pretty sure that you need to get it coded at the dealer, u need some special piece of equipment to code it the same as the other remotes.

Like I said I am not 100% sure on this, hopefully someone else here can give you a positive answer one way or the other.

Direct from GM's S/T 1998 Manual page 8-856

Transmitter Programming:

1)With the driver door closed, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel.

2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position

3)Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position

4)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position

5)Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position

6)Release the power unlock button on the door panel.
The remote control door lock reciever will respond in the following manner in order to indicate that the receiver is in the programming mode:

6.1)Locking the doors

6.2)Unlocking the doors

IMPORTANT:
All extra transmitters must be programmed at this time. When a new transmitter is programmed it will deactivate the old transmitters.

7)Hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter until the remote control door lock reciever will respond in the following manner:

7.1)Locking the doors

7.2)Unlocking the doors

8)Repeat step 7 for each additional transmitter

9) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Anyone know the procedure for a 2001 Pontiac Montana, I tried the following to no avail.

1. Hold Unlock Button
2. Ignition On, Off, On, Off

The system did not respond by locking and unlocking the doors.
It was also unable to program the remote.

This is from GM's 1999 book. It should be the same.

Important! Once the BCM enters program mode, all transmitters must be programmed at the same time. Any transmitters not learned at this time will be erased.

1) Remove the key from the ignition cylinder

2) Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse from the fuse panel

3) Close all the doors

4) Close the liftgate

5) Turn the ign lock cylinder to the ACC. position

6) Turn the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second

7) Open and close any door
Achim will be heard when the system enters the BCM programming mode

IMPORTANT!
After 7 seconds a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessar to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming.

8) Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds

9) Repeat the previous step on each additional transmitter to be programmed.

10) Remove the ignition key from the ignition cylinder

11) Install the BCM PRGRM fuse back into the fuse panel.

By any chance, do any of u know how to program remote for 1995 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight?

1) Turn ignition switch to the OFF position. Use a fused jumper wire (3amp fuse should be substantial) and connect Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals "G" (Purple/White wire) and "A" (Black/ White wire). Door locks, fuel door and trunk lid release should activate in approximately 2 seconds.

2) Press any button on one transmitter. Door locks, fuel door and trunk lid release should activate in approxomately 2 seconds. First transmitter is now programmed. Repeat this step using other transmitter. Disconnect jumper wire from DLC.

If I remember correctly your DLC is on the bottom of the dash on the right side of the steering column.

ok Tireburner, im having a hard time figuring this out (not techinical car minded) Does the Data Link Connector have prongs that a black. I have 10 small black prongs and 6 whites prongs. (i hope this is the DLC)

Bolted to the bottom edge of the dash, just to the passenger side of the steering column is a black plug. It may have a cap that says diagnostic on it, otherwise it is a 16 pin plug, 8 holes wide and two holes high.

On the back of the plug will be 8 wires

light green
black
black with white stripe
another black with white stripe
tan
light blue
dark green
orange

You don't need to take the dash apart to get to the plug, but you may need to take the bottom of the dash panel off to get to the wires.

Let me know what you find.

Thank u tireburner, that was helpful being very techincal so I could figure it out. I went to auto store and got a fuse wire hooked it to the 2 termnals which were purple/white and black/white. I got one of the two remotes I ordered from Ebay to work. Now my only problem is one remote will not activate. i think the remote is broken because i put new batteries in and it still would not accept it, althothough the dealer said the FCC Number would work. Do u know anywhere to buy used remotes other than Ebay. i prefer not to get ripped of again. (See why the person sold the broken remote) Dumped the broken one on me.

Ok, the buick remote works fine. The specifications stated on the back are GM Part Number (25602667.68.69); Model/FCC ID (ABOO302T, DOC/MDC 218 K800);and made by United Technologies Automotive

Now the pontiac remote for some reason does not program. im thinking its because it may be broken (have tried new batteries) or because the DOC/MDC appear different from the buick. Now a dealership in my area said the FCC ID for the Pontiac should work for my car.
