I hooked up a system, now my car wont start
I just bought an 02 blazer and I tried installing a system in it (amp and two 12's). It worked great for 5 min. then the bass shut off, then the amp, then everything else in the car. When I turn the key it is silent (every once in a while ill hear clicking). To top it off, I cant even get the key out of the ignition. Any ideas what I did to break my car?

did you check the fuses? you might of blown one. Stock alternators aren't really made to run custom systems too well

I checked all the fuses. I think I might have messed something up when I took out the receiver to connect the power connection wire from my amp to my receiver.

Wow, that is truly a sad story. I would get a meter, and start checking for continuity.

This goes to show that if you don't know what you are doing when it comes to car audio you don't need to mess with it. It sounds like you shorted something out either behind you HU or under the hood. Oh hey kirkbolton the only way you can properly run the power lead from the battery is to put it on a toggle switch in the dash otherwise your amp will constantly be pulling power from your battery.

You might want to check your ecu, it sounds like you ran your amp power cable by your ecu and shorted it out
Good luck!!!!!!

Im sure it has something to do with muffler bearings also! lol..
Just kidding----Running straight off the battery with a switch is the way I would go myself. Although I do like the way kirk spells it out also! :-) |

Re: I hooked up a system, now my car wont start
Yep, you more likely fried your computer
Take it out and get it tested ***RUNNING THE WIRE TO THE BATTERY*** YES, this is what you must do if your powering any custom systems. A switch can be installed BUT NOT NECESSARY. What is necessary is a fuse no more then a foot off your + terminal near the battery. The only time it will draw current from your battery is when your radio is on. This is why there is the BLUE wire which is your alternate source of power which runs from your radio to your amps as A SWITCH to turn the amp off when the radio is shut off. |
