Code Reader Question- Is Code Clearing Safe?

I just purchased a Kobra code reader and need to clear a p420 code. There is a warning that freeze frame data and manu specific enhanced data will also be cleared. Also IM readiness monitor status for all vehicle monitors is reset to not ready or not complete status.
Mechanics have cleared the codes on this vehicle several times. I was wondering if all code readers carry a similar warning or if mine is different and I need to look for a reader that will erase just the diagnostic trouble codes, or do they all erase all the codes?
Just want to be careful. Thanks for help!

If you clear the codes all prior info is gone, also the emissions monitors will require a drive cycle to restore the info, this will cause a failure for state inspection in states that require them.

Re: Code Reader Question- Is Code Clearing Safe?

I knew everything you said. What I am trying to figure out is are all devices the same in that they will clear all codes including those mentioned in the warning that came with my device. In other words I want to know, as I said, if all devices clear codes to the same extent. Please let me know if this question is still confusing. Thanks.

I've used multiple different scan tools and they all clear everything that your cautions you about, even if they don't provide a similar warning. I'm reasonably sure that's a function of the "clear fault codes" subroutine of OBD-II rather than something the scan tool has control over.
