Smile 216 coupe 113bhp to 130 bhp

hi there hope someone out there can answer my question.

as i understand when they made the coupe they decided not to put the 130 bhp d16a9 dohc in it as it might put some off getting the 2.0 148 bhp model the w*****z. any way is it simply a case of swapping the head from my weak 113bhp sohc model for the d16a9 head and swapping the ecu and maybe a few different gaskets or does the whole lot need to be changed. i feel this would be alot easier than some of the "mini me" operations going on lol.
thanx in advance for any replies.
please e-mail privately aswell if poss Markyg19@hotmail.co.uk

111bhp actually.

I get confussed with the Honda engine codes, but if your talking about putting in the twin cam Honda lump, then it is a bolt in conversion and standard fit to European 216's. Your best getting the engine from a Rover 216GTi rather than the Honda equivilant as the Rover lump uses a plug and play wiring loom, where as the Honda lump needs you to cut off the connectors and fit the Honda ones. If you decide to VTEC, you need an other engine transplant.

cheers mate it's a tomcat by the way. yeah i was on about the dohc from the gti do i just need the head and new cambelt or would it be easier to swap the lot? and you say the ecu from the gti should plug straight into the loom? gr8. i would like to do the vtec conversion but rewiring the loom doesn't sound easy and i've heard you need different engine mounts for those engines not sure though.
p.s thanx for the quick response.

Tomcat was just the project name for the coupe, but I did know you meant the proper coupe and not a 3 dr hatch.

You need the whole engine, but it is a very simple swap, especially if it's a twin cam from a Rover. We did it to my mate's 216 in a weekend, well, it was really a day, but when your a couple of mates chatting and drinking you get distracted and spread it over a weekend. He had a mini me conversion, the sohc vtec and wanted the race gearbox from the rover he was scrapping so we swapped the engine and gearbox in one. for convenience as it meant he kept the race clutch too. You need the power steering pipe from the Rover donor too iirc. If your in the UK and down in the south and fancy a sohc vtec, I have my mate's engine in my garage which is for sale.

The sohc vtec conversion is easy on the wiring, my mate was running it without the vtec as he was waiting for the right ecu and then accidentally plugged it all in. I can put you in touch with him if you want to learn more about that, he's back off hols in 2 wks.

I was going to do a twin cam conversion myself until I ended up finding a mint K series 216SE. If you go for the civic twin cam, i think it's the same engine mounts.
