Looking for rare Shelby daytona
Hey all,
Looking to replace a daytona I had a few years back. If anyone knows where I can find a 1989 Dodge Daytona, Shelby with Turbo with the 2.5L manual transmission, would greatly appreciate it. Don't remember if that model had t-tops available, but if so, would love to find one. This car is harder than hell to find now. |

Re: Looking for rare Shelby daytona
So close. My buddy just brought us down an 88 Shelby Z with a 2.2 TurboII 5 speed and T-tops. Anybody know where I can get the seals for the T-tops? Can't wait to start playing...

Re: Looking for rare Shelby daytona
just picked one up for 800 no Ttop though. The car does overheat what would cause that. No smoke no knocks, all fluids full

Re: Looking for rare Shelby daytona
the shelby daytona never came with a 2.5l it always had a 2.2l intercooled turbo.
they are not that rare... t-tops were optional from 87 up on the shelby my 87 had them. I paid 400 for the car kept the engine and trans and got rid of the car for $100 |

Re: Looking for rare Shelby daytona
You had 2 engine choices in an 89 Daytona Shelby. A 174HP 2.2L Turbo II engine with a 5 speed manual transmission or a 150HP 2.5L Turbo I engine with a 3 speed automatic transmission.
If you have a turbo 2.5L with a 5 speed, the engine or the transmission was swapped in that car.

Re: Looking for rare Shelby daytona
The '89 Daytona had a variety of engine and transmission packages,
1989 Daytona, Daytona ES (w/wo Turbo), Daytona ShelbyEngines Offered: 1. 2.2 Liter 93hp 4cyl 2. Turbocharged 2.2 Liter 142hp 4cyl (Turbo 1) 3. 2.5 Liter 100hp 4 cyl (Base Production Engine) 4. Turbocharged 2.2 Liter Intercooled 174hp 4cyl (Turbo II) 5. Turbocharged 2.5 Liter 150hp 4cyl (Turbo 1) This was pulled from the Allpar web site. The Shelby carried 2.2 liter turbo intercooled 5-speed turbo II. You can make a 2.5 5-speed but it will not be a true Shelby. Now in the later years they did make a 2.5 5-speed Shelby (which I have), just not in the late '80's models. |
