Find out what car a part goes with, by its part #?

I just started as an apprentice mechanic at a cab company and was given the job to organize the stock room, have a bunch of parts still in boxes but been there for quite a while and don't know what vehicle they are for. Is there a way to find out what car they fit by just the part number? I can google the part number but all that does is tell me what it is, which I already know.

You can try rockauto.com parts number search. Then you can show what car it fits. But the caveat is "double check parts catalog".

It finds the part, but still can't find out what car/year it fits with their system, unless I'm not doing it right. (ie Raybestos rotor 780049)

Click on the blue colored part # in the part description box.

Try this link:

http://delphicat.com/WebForms/frmDelphiHome.aspx

It has a parts inquiry and a cross-reference.

Good luck.
