98 convertible window motor

We have a beautiful '98 convertible that has a problem with the passenger-side rear quarter window. Either the motor and/or the regulator are need to be replaced. Sorry, I'm not sure what the difference is. In any case the window is now down but won't go up.

In scouring the web I find many motors for the front windows but none for the back. Is it a different motor or will a front motor work?

Any idea how to find one?

Re: 98 convertible window motor

You should be able to access the motor and test to see if you are getting power to the connector when the switch is toggled. Also, you can apply battery power to the motor directly to check that it works. Finally, it may be a problem with the wiring harness in the driver's door, which usually has controls for all the windows. Check that the section that is covered by a rubber boot between the door and body hasn't fatigued and has broken wires. Sometimes pinching and rolling the wires there with your hand while moving the door can give momentary contact (you'd need a third hand to hold the switch down)

I don't know for sure, but the window motors themselves could be the same for all four...car manufacturers like to keep common parts when possible. Though it is possible for them to be smaller given they don't have as heavy a load to move. This would be to save weight. The regulators would definitely be different.

You can try salvage yards first, then opt for the dealer, if only to get a part number from. This is so you can cross-reference for different vehicles to expand your search. Then try eBay and the like...it's absurd what you can find there. Good luck!
