Question Quesion about factory Class 3

I sold my Class 3 on ebay just the way I removed it and the buyer is asking about the "re-inforcing rails" I have no idea what he is talking about. I know what a re-inforcing rail is but my Xterra didn't have any on it. Just 6 bolts, nuts and washers. This guy thinks im ripping him off. Am I supposed to have these rails? did I get ripped off? Or perhaps they only came with certain year Xterras.

The reinforcing bars only come with Nissan hitches. If you got yours from an aftermarket supplier then your truck wouldn't have them.

Here's what he's looking for (Thanks to www.xterrastore.com for the pics).

Well im going to have to go take a look. My Class 3 was part of the truck I bought a 2000 Xterra 3 pac. When I removed the reciever I didn't see anything that looked like that but I wasn't looking. Would it have come loose when I removed the reciever? and do I need it with the calmini bumper?

You have to remove the bumper to access them. They are inside the frame rails.

Aftermarket Class III

Mine came with 6, 1/2" thick spacers that were used to reinforce the frame. It worked well! I pulled several people ouuta the ditch when I had my hitch!

When I put my Calmini Rear bumper on I didnt notice anything extra back there in my frame area. Once again I wasn't realy looking for frame rails because I didn't know I was supposed to have them. Ill take a closer look one of these days. Im not realy worried I have towed over 20k miles with the stock hitch and never had any problems I suspect the rails are back there.

No those are the Nissan ones. I imagine the skid row ones will look the same.

So the guy who bought your hitch has to wait until "one of these days" rolls around for you to send them to him ?

Um yeah, that guy who bought your hitch can't properly install it without the frame inserts. The Nissan hitch relies on them for a proper fit and tow rating. As far as your truck is concerned, you don't need them anymore. The Calmini bumper mounts in such a way that the frame rail inserts are pretty much useless. Calmini uses the center mount to compensate for this. So, you should either remove them soon and get them to the guy who bought your hitch or buy him a set of the Skid Row inserts.

The auction was for the Hitch reciever and ball. Nothing more. I never mentioned anything about the frame rails and most likely would not have sold them if I new they where there. If my factory class 3 needed them then im sure my new class 3 does aswell. I've been over this with the buyer and he agrees. For his money he still got a hell of a deal.

I will put the frame rales on ebay. If he wants them he can pay for them. If he wants skid row inserts he can buy them. I never missrepresented the auction he got exactly what he paid for and at $78 he got a hell of a deal.

Give him a option to buy em first as the hitch isnt fully safe without them. Especially if you get near the towing max. Help make it convenient for him and you might save someone from making a dumbass mistake that gets someone else killed...... Just a thought...too many people take trailering too lightly (im not pointing at you lot).

Cheers
