p0700, check engine, abs, brake lights are on
2000 dodge durango with 4.7 litre 4wd. Vehicle would not downshift when stepping into the gas, seemed to only be using two forward gears, and would shift solely based on rpm. ABS brake system non-functional. Speedometer not working at under 25 mph. Started with onboard diagnostics. Turning the ignition on and off three times then leaving ignition on. The guage cluster's lower left hand corner digital readout displayed showed P0700 then P_Done. After some research found the output speed sensor on the rear of the transmission may be to blame. After changing this the shift behavior improved some but still seemed to shift too early and was not reaching a high enough gear at highway speeds. Speedometer still non-functional at under 25mph. Proceeded to replacement of abs/speed sensor located on top of the rear differential. No change to shift patterns. Speedometer began working at under 25mph. ABS light and Brake lights turned off at this point as well. Further research found me another sensor on the transmission. It took some searching to reveal that this input sensor is the exact same sensor as the output sensor, the only difference being it's location toward the front of the transmission. We have just picked up this second speed sensor ( same part as the first replaced. ) Will be replacing soon. Will report back on shift behavior. I have posted this for reference as this information was a little tougher to find and the auto parts stores seem to have no idea this sensor is used in 2 places, and often call it an output speed sensor, when in fact it is an input/output speed sensor and is used 2per trans.

This attachment shows the location of the two identical sensors on the trans.

Re: p0700, check engine, abs, brake lights are on
After replacing the input speed sensor ( front of trans. ). The check engine light turned off and all is well. Shifts are as expected and this truck is just as powerful as ever. Hope this helps. Please post reply if you have anything to add or if your experience differs.
