'00 328CI - Engine keeps dying while running

1. This never happend before and just started recently. It doesn't happen all the time but occasionally. Recently having this problem at least once a day. After I start the engine, maybe after a quarter mile to a mile.. while in motion my engine just dyes on me. Soon after I restart the engine.. it just doesn't feel right. The RPM moves up but the speed doesn't catch up as it used too. Did this happend to anybody else? I am really frustrated. I want to know exactly what's wrong before I take it to the BMW dealer. Your information is much appreciated. Lately, I've been having soooooo much trouble with my car.

2. Cam shaft - my "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light comes out and the BMW dealer says it's the Cam shaft. I need to replace it. What does a Cam shaft do? Does this have anything to do with the problem I am having with the engine dying on me?

3. I recently had a oil change at the BMW dealer and soon after I start the engine the oil lamp sign comes on and disappears. The BMW dealer says it could be the oil lamp sensor gone bad. What does this mean?

Arghhhhhh so frustrated....

Re: '00 328CI - Engine keeps dying while running

the cam shaft is the shaft that hold the cams or lobes that open and close the intake and eshaust valves. you have a relatively new bimmer and i find it somewhat odd that you need to have this replaced already. most cars go their entire lives without this being replaced, however. . .

that could possibly be causing the engine problem that you are having, but it could also be so many other things. the camshaft controls the valves, and in turn controls how much air is taken in, and allows the exhaust to leave the combustion chamber. if these things are happening or are not happening on time as the engine is designed it could cause a rough running engine, or one that does not run at all.

upon thinking about it, ure bimmer has vanos variable valve timing i believe. this may be causing the issue as well.

concerning your oil light: when u first start your bimmer it should test all the indicator lights by lighting them briefly. be sure that your bimmer is not doing this before admitting that there is an issue.

modern cars feature tons of sensors to monitor how the vehicle is performing. the oil sensor monitors the oil level. if this sensor is bad, it will give you bad or incorrect readings. the only way to correct it is to replace the sensor. also, be sure that you have enough oil in ure bimmer, and that you get your periodic oil changes. in ure bimmer, its about every 15000 miles with synthetic oil, however i would truly recommend changing it more often than that!

Ollin. I don't think your camshaft has to be changed.
I think the technition or manager said that the sensor
has to be changed. This will cause your engine to run
rough.
