1993 k1500 lights not working

Lately, I've had a delay in lights coming on (headlights, running lights, instrument lights). When I first hit the light switch(s), nothing happens. Then, after several minutes, they come on, like magic. They work great after they come on. The switch turns all lights on and off as normal.
Today, no magic. Prince of darkness.
Drove around an hour (after sunrise) with no lights. Toggled the lights switch back and forth, no luck. Of course I'm 500 miles from my home.
Bad switch, bad connections, bad relay?
Is there anyone out there that's had this problem with your Chevy truck?
Looking for a quick fix for now.

Re: 1993 k1500 lights not working

My 95 dually (C3500) Chevy did just that-- was the light switch- replaced it, all is well for another ten years. I could see the hot spot on back of switch where contacts inside were arching- causing the delay in coming on...

Thanks. Do you remember if it was a Chevy dealer part or an aftermarket?

Just answered my own question. Amazon has the OEM AC Delco switch for $26 delivered.
Ordered it.
Thanks

Re: 1993 k1500 lights not working

Friend of mine had the same problem on his '89 K1500. Same solution, too.

If you were to re-wire the headlights so that the main current draw was handled by a pair of relays, you'd have brighter lights and the light switch would carry a fraction of the current load. It wouldn't get hot, and it'd probably last longer. Add a diode between the relays, and you have MUCH more light on "High beams" because the low-beam lights stay lit.
