Re: Recap of the Japanese F1 fleet - Take 2

A contact sent me these photos today and has kindly allowed me to share with the group. Included in the note was the mileage figure - "Just 314 miles!!" - but perhaps he meant KM's because that's what I thought it had?

The current asking price - and hopefully you are seated, is reported to be $5.5M USD.

Like many of the record F1 prices of the past, there will probably come a day when buying any F1 at that price will have seemed to have been worth every penny. I don't find it quite so shocking as I recently heard a fairly credible story about a US car that may have been sold for a figure near the $5M mark.

One wonders - Will this one ever be sold?

And I ask the question that way for a reason.

Re: Recap of the Japanese F1 fleet - Take 2

Would you be referring to the color? I heard a rumor from a reliable source that someone past up an offer of $5-6 Million in the recent past. If that's correct it shows that there are people willing to pay that much for one.

Buy the way, what is that emblem like item on the middle of the hood between the windows, I've never seen it before?

£3.5 million

I'd pay that for that particular car.

Best one they ever made.

It's the ArtSports logo - that's the dealership in Japan where the car has been stored for many years and first listed for sale through back in 2007.

I was sort of joking, thinking you might be referring to the interior color, which I have to say I wouldn't chose. Of course for a guy like myself I'd take it if I had the chance.

I sure hope that ArtSports logo is only a removable sticker. I can't understand putting your dealership logo on such a car.

Re: Recap of the Japanese F1 fleet - Take 2

Nothing to do with the colors - I think this spec is actually quite fantastic.

You might have to draw your own conclusions a bit on what I wrote. I know that several good offers have been made for this one in all the time it has been offered for sale. Not letting go of it since 2007 when it first went up for sale hasn't been the dumbest decision since values have more than doubled in that time period, but a lot of potential customers have apparently spun their wheels on this one with no result.

And yes - probably a sticker. If you look back at the shots of #28R from the Bonhams catalog you'll find it wears a BingoSports decal at the rear. So too did chassis #013 at one point.

HANDS OFF EVERYONE - SHE'S MINE!

It's possibly my favourite road going F1 - despite protestations from A.N.other who has seen it who has infinitely far more knowledge and contact to F1's on a daily basis than I deeming it to be not in his choice of colour

I'd pay up to £4m for it due to the mileage

Not if I get her first, it's only the brown interior portion I dislike, the rest is mine.

This car should be kept in its original configuration - I vote for Greg.

Cheers - 1 vote = $1, so only a few more to go

I would take the blue protective tape off the door sills and leave the Art Sports logo on - I was miffed Carrs of Exeter took off the Bingo Sports sticker off #013

Re: Recap of the Japanese F1 fleet - Take 2

Actually, if I were able to buy the car today, I would keep it in it's original state despite my color preferences. I've always appreciated originality; I've never been one to modify things. If I had any sports car, one I could afford, knowing myself I would not change a thing. I wouldn't even alter the exhaust system for the sake of improving sound quality.

I would certainly be a purist with the F1 because it's the way it was made for the first time. Sorry, I'm a sentimental type. Sometimes I think it's cool that McLaren allows modifications and that the provenance is maintained, but the purist in me also dislikes it. If everyone changes colors on each F1, we lose a touch of what they were from the beginning. This is why the original untouched F1's are all the more special. So, there's a deeper meaning behind this car that exceeds personal taste, in my humble opinion.

Yep if I was ever in a position to afford an F1, it'd be this one and it'd be kept as is.

It's utterly perfect and pretty damn unique as well, don't see many cars if any in such a combination.

Re: Recap of the Japanese F1 fleet - Take 2

I think it would be cool if these originals fall into the hands of those that appreciate purity and originality. Suppose they did and we always had originals maintained, wouldn't it be cool to create a special class such as an originals club that came together every so often like the event that just took place in Italy. Of course I'm not sure how many are original; might be a small club. But they would be worth following just like Erik follows the US cars for instance.

Going to throw a curve ball in here, why opt for a very low milage example unless you do NOT intend to use it, my preference would be to go for something that I would be happy to use and not worry that I was depreciating it by adding milage.
