340 Duster vs. 331 Mustang

We got some old school last night. A '70 340 duster vs. me . Well this duster was a Heads/Cam/Intake car and as you all know so is mine, but with 9 less cubes. Went from a 25mph roll, he honked it down and we took off. He got a good car length on me so i had to play catch up. No problem, i finally passed him just over 100 mph and as soon as i got a car length ahead i let off. He wasn't happy to have been beaten by a ford . So now he (being on DR's) wanted to go from a stop. Me on street radials. He honked it down again BAM he took off like a rocket and i'm still trying to get my tires to quit spinning. I took it to about 105mph and was gaining but he was still probably 2-3 cars ahead when i let off. He had 1 passenger and i had 2 for both races. So we called it even for the night. Next time though, next time i'm gonna use my drag radials and da stang will neva looze! hehe. His car has run a best of 12.90@105, mine 12.77@112. So i clearly had the power advantage .

you probably dont have a power advantage at all, you have to rememeber that your transmission is geared much better than a dusters.

Re: 340 Duster vs. 331 Mustang

maybe, but i'm pretty sure he's got an aftermarket shifter and a shift kit. he's got 3.90's vs. my 3.73's also. And i still had extra weight. It's hard to say, but i'll admit his car sounds a hell of a lot meaner than mine that's for sure.

nice runs. Sounds like you know the guy's car pretty well, so I'm assuming you probably know him? Toss on those DRs and line up another run and don't forget the video camera.

Did you end up going to the Pavs last night? It's my son's B-Day next week, and we kinda celebrated last night, so I couldn't call ya.

Good win and loss. Your car must have alot of power to be trapping that high.

Re: 340 Duster vs. 331 Mustang

It put down 350+rwhp so yeah it's pretty fun. And yes i know him pretty well. Went to HS with him so he's always talkin' smack. Friendly smack talk though, we get along and everything. Good friends to say the least. But next time (possibly tomorrow morning Monday) we're gonna go at it again this time i'll get my DR's on. Can't wait it'll be fun. There was a video made but someone else took it and i dont' know if they're gonna put it on the net. So anyway i'll let you guys know how it goes, IF it goes down again. hopefully it will hehe.

better watch out if he gets smart he will figure out that the duster with the 340 is an extremely powerful car at the strip.
