Not the fastest car in the world anymore...

Is anyone mad that the SSC Ultimate Aero dethroaned the Veyron as the fastest production car in the world? I'm American, so I'm pretty proud of Jarred Shelby. Woo Hoo. *G*

Old new's dude, however proud you may be Koenigsegg's haven't been tested yet on anything over the CCR. They can still test the CCX & CCX Edition as well as the CCXR and CCXR Edition, to reclaim top spot before the Veyron took it. Also check out the Bugatti Veyron Vincero Edition by Mansory, this Veyron puts out 1109bhp. Although its not had a high speed run I would like to see what they can do top end wise with another 108ph.

I know it's old news. No one has talked about it yet. I was just wondering if Veyron owners were complacent about owning a car that they probably bought simply because of its top-speed rating. Of course, these owners could probably easily drop half a mil on a Aero. I heard Shelby was coming out with a 4 door 220 MPH supercar soon.

Re: Not the fastest car in the world anymore...

I guess there cant be comparison between Shelby and Veyron, because Veyron is still worlds 2nd fastest car. See yourself,

However, the difference between SSC Ultimate Aero and Veyron, is not much. I wish veyron to takeover SSC, and become world's top fastest car once again.

Re: Not the fastest car in the world anymore...

They ultimate goal of the Veyron was not simply to be the fastest production car in the world. It was to make the Veyron the fastest luxury touring car in the world. All of these 'kit cars' that claim top speeds of higher than the Bugatti may do so, but how long will it last? Veyron guru Ferdinand Piech set out to build the best car the world had ever seen. It was not only to be fast but ultimately luxurious, built with hand selected leathers and metals. It was to be driveable, so you can take it down the street at a snails pace and not set the clutch on fire. And it was to be able to do it again and again. Unlike race cars (or back shed supercars) where a transmission or engine simply has to last for a track day, the Veyron was designed to stay on the road with little maintenance, year after year.

There will be cars that are faster than the Bugatti, but it will be a long time before a car does it as graciously, effortlessly and flatteringly smooth as the Veyron does.

For the most part, that is because the money isn't there to build this type of car anymore. It is only because Ferdinand Peisch decided to dump hundreds of millions of dollars into the development of the Veyron that it saw the light of day - any smaller company could not have borrowed this kind of R&D money without a profitable product to show for it. VW (or VAG, lol) engineered this car in just about the only economic climate that could justify it - Jeremy Clarkson said it appropriately that we may never see the likes of this kind of car in our lifetimes again. Imagine the reaction if GM were to reveal a 1,100 hp supercharged Cadillac right now - it would be a PR nightmare. People want to see responsibility and accountability in manufacturers, and truly amazing cars like the Veyron are quickly being regarded as dated icons of a past generation.
