Clutch free play on 2005 ION

Hi, Haven't been on the forum for a long time but it's been helpful many times.

The clutch on my 2005 ION works just fine (no slipping or anything) only problem is that the pedal has way to much free play. So the pedal is almost all the way to the floor before it engages. Is this adjustable?

Car has 60k miles. Not sure if the clutch has ever been done but the only problem is the free play.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks but this car doesn't have that type of adjustment on it.

Re: Clutch free play on 2005 ION

I apologize. The way the preview appeared in Google made it look like it was for an ION.

After another search it appears there is no adjustment.

Look where the clutch master cylinder rod connects to the pedal. There is a plastic bushing/retainer (p/n 22697429, item #2 in this diagram) that goes between the rod and the back of the pedal that commonly wears out. If this is neglected for too long the pushrod will eventually wear a hole through the clutch pedal assembly. The pedal assembly (p/n 15274047) will need to be replaced if this occurs. Don't put this off because the clutch pedal assembly costs over $160 (almost $250 if purchased from a stealership) to replace.
