Angry turbo keeps boosting over and over in 5th gear and doesn't accelerate

Why does the turbo in my 87 Conquest go to about 12 psi and then keep pounding the engine without hardly accelerating? It does this over and over in 5th gear about 90-95 or so. Sometimes it happens in 4th. If I press on the throttle while in 5th the boost builds and then the turbo kicks in over and over one right after the other. What is that?

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Does the car jerk, do have have boost creep, or does it just spike?

I think I figured it out. It seems that every time this occurred, the little tube that goes from the front of the turbo (I think it operates the wastegate) to the intake tube that goes to the throttle body was popped off. As soon as I zipped tied it down securely my problem went away. Turbo is smoooooooth now.

hey mate. believe it or not people do this in australia as a way to wind the boost up. we use to do it with our mates jap import starion(4G63 single cam like our aus spec) so we could run 15PSI. thats a small problem with internal wastegates. on our 2.6 astron(conquest in the states) engine we have factory external wastegates from the sigma turbo. post some pics up of your quests.
cheers Lyndon
