Other gears in auto
Hey everyone,
I just had a question about cars with automatic transmission. On the gears below drive, there are two other gears 2 and L. Does starting in L and shifting to 2 and then drive make any difference at all? I was just curious, and it may be a stupid question. Any help is appreciated. I hope this is in the right forum. |

Re: Other gears in auto
If by "make any difference at all" you mean in acceleration, then no it does not. It allows you to start in 2nd when in foul terrain (snow) and it allows you to limit the transmission to a certain gear for say, steep hill decents. It won't, however, increase your acceleration by starting it L and then shifting it yourself to 2nd and D. At WOT (wide open throttle) the transmission usually shifts close to the redline and manually shifting it you really only run the chance of damaging the transmission or engine.

would help if I knew the model of tranny, but L would be low or first and 2 second and apparently D is drive or 3rd....
manually shifting them negates the valve body in most case (unless 'float protect' is programmed in) |
