Squealing when turning.
Mitsibishi magna 1998 TK V6 3.0L
When i turn my steering wheel ( and almost make a full turn) there is a loud squealing noise and it seems like something is fighting againts the steering wheel when it starts to squeal. There was a tare in the power steering belt so i changed it yet the same problem is happening. Is it the power steering pump and does it need to be changed? |

Re: Squealing when turning.
if its turned all the way to one side or the other the relief valve will make noise. open the hood and have someone turn the wheel while you watch the power steering pump pulley. see if it stops turning or slows down when the wheel it turned. you belt may not be tight enough and makes noise when it stops turning the pump

Re: Squealing when turning.
Agreed, your symptoms sound like a loose power steering belt or a belt that is contaminated and slipping. A slipping power steering belt will cause a squealing sound and, because the belt is slipping, inconsistent power assist from the power steering pump. That inconsistent assist is likely why you think it feels like something is fighting against the steering wheel.

Re: Squealing when turning.
Belt is on there fine and the alignment is fine, the belt is clean and i changed the powersteering pump today all new fluid too. Opened the hood and had someone turn the wheel, the power steering pully still turns fine but a hose underneath the power steering pump or morely close beside it starts to shake when the car starts squealing, this hose is not connected to the power steering at all.. Thanks for your help guys

Re: Squealing when turning.
Possibly missing or out of adjustment stops on steering knuckles.

Re: Squealing when turning.
Make sure the power steering belt is properly adjusted and check the power steering fluid.
