Re: '01 Quest won't start
if the rotor doesnt spin while the engine is cranking then the timing belt is broken. lucky for you it wont bend the valves. good luck.

Re: '01 Quest won't start
I have heard that if the timing belt breaks, because this is an interference engine, the valves and pistons will hit and bend or break. So, my question is, where do I stand? Why do you think the valves are ok? I, of course, would rather replace the timing belt than the whole engine. Please reply. Thanx.

Re: '01 Quest won't start
suposedly the deal between nissan and ford required a non interference engine. i've seen several of these break and never bent any valves.

Re: '01 Quest won't start
My 2001 Quest died on the way to work this morning. No warning signs, nothing! I had someone look at it and they told me they thought it was the timing belt. What do I do? Is this something that I can fix myself (or rather have someone I know fix), or is my only option to have a repair shop do it?

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ go to nissan quest, then pick your year and click on the EM- Engine Mechanical section and go to timing belt replacement and it will show you what the procedure is. Then you can determine if you wish to do the work or have a repair shop do it. I strongly suggest that you also replace the water pump at the same time since the parts you remove to get to the timing belt are the same to get to the water pump. Also install new timing belt tensioner with belt. Also it is best to start your own thread with your vehicle questions rather than a existing one even tho it is about the same problem, you will get more help that way. Hope this helps |
