Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Note to self. Don't ever again make a quartet build of bikes with almost the same livery. Tends to be a bit of a bug to keep those references apart.

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
For you interested in getting one or two decal sheets or transkits (some pretty rare) I've made a post in the classified thread. Have a look and get in touch!

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Hey Joel how is this build going?
I can see that maybe is very hard to make four bikes at the same time... I also checked your post on the Classified thread, I have a couple of Yzr500 to be repaired but I can't remember if I already bought the decals for them I will double check that and if not I may buy a set from you. Please update us with new pictures!! Roca. |

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Ok first of all, there are some problems involved in building four pretty much alike bikes. You've got to have some sort of system separating the different bikes parts from each other. If you like me don't build on a frequent bases it is a good idea to keep some sort of log over the different set-ups and what differs between the bikes.
Otherwise it easily goes like this...how did the swing with markings for the ´00 bike end up together with the ´99 calipers?? Fortunate fore me I hadn't glued the damper to the frame mount. Unfortunate for me, separating the swing from the frame ment this... Really don't know how to fix that... Otherwise I'm struggling on. I've done the cf on the fenders but always end up like this I got some good tips from the car section but I never tend to get any better on this. Gladly I'm told that a shape like that is among the harder pieces to cover without wrinkles... Perhaps a few layers of smoke covers the worst. To tell you honestly Roca, not much happening here but I'll try to do better. Joel

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Hi Joel,
I'm sorry to hear that. As for the chain... I would try to glue it again carefully... If I were you I would stop the other 3 bikes and I would concentrate to finish one, then the other, the third and finally the fourth. On the CF decals... what I do is to cover the piece and then I use micro sol with a tissues or kitchen paper and push with the tissue over the decal to fit the surface... and also I use the fingers... It's a little bit difficult but as all, it is practise. Hope you could finish them without major problems. Roca. |

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Thanks for your support Roca, I'm trying to do just that, finishing them off one by one.

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Hi Joel,
bad luck on the model. I think the best way to fix the chain is to dril two tiny holes in each part so you can put a piece of thin copper wire or so in it before you glue them together. This will make the bonding stronger. Good luck |

Re: Marlboro Yamaha YZR500 quartet
Shame about the chain. As for the cf decal, I can only recommend applying more Microsol. Also, try not to make slits into it on top of the fender, only on the sides and behind it, if you see what I mean. Sorry for the image quality but this I did in one piece, making several slits along the edges.
Work from the centre out. Once it gets soft and starts sitting where I want it, I hold the piece up close to my table lamp to dry off the decal. Apply more Microsol to the remaining parts of the fender that aren't in place. Hope you understood all that. Keep persevering

Ohh sorry to hear about that... But on the other hand I am sure you will figure out how to get better results with the CF decals, just take your time!

Picked these builds out after a four year absence. Found four boxes with quite a mess in them actually :-)
Cowlings mostly done together with frames and engines. I'll try to finish them off. A tip: Don't start a quartet up ;-)

Hmm, some of the cowls have gotten cracks in the clear. Subtle but cracks they are. All of them appear in the white sections of the cowls. Could be one of two things I guess. Either clear has reacted in some way but I would imagine it to have been more cracks then. Or, as the parts have been in a box in a non isolated building during the last three years, meaning -25 degrees celsius during winter and +25 during summer, they have not withstanded the weather changes and expandings in the material.
Well well, can't get new decal sheets now so I'll just pack them up and accept that they will never be contenders in a contest :-)

Is it already four years!! Whoooow What can I say Joël, I know the problem. For the last 4 years, I did more work on my house than got into modelling. But one day I'll take revenge |
