95 525i swapping with non-vanos engine
I am working on my buddies 95 525i his engine has the vanos system but the engine we got came from a 92 325i w/out vanos, it is not an option to take it back to get a different one there are none from any salvage yards near by. Drove 1-1/2 hours and about 4 hours pulling this engine from the yard.
Is there anyway I can still use this engine? (i.e. would I be able to just leave the VANOS plug unplugged and will the engine still run fine without it? Thanks Joe

All you need to do is use the ecu for the non vanos engine

Re: 95 525i swapping with non-vanos engine
I got everything together and now the engine is hard to start and runs rough. I don't have the MAF sensor connected because I am waiting on a new one to come, couldn't use the original because its a 4-wire connector and the harness has a 5-wire connector. I hope that takes care of the issue.
