99 Ram Overdrive Problem
Have a 99 Ram 1500 4x4, when it gets into overdrive, truck doesn't want to get out of its own way and it seems like the converter shudders. With O.D.
turned off, it runs half decent, but sometimes when it gets to high gear, it want to lay down again. Changed TPS as advised, but it did not cure the problem. Since changing TPS, fuel mileage went from 12.6 down to 9.8. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 1999 Ram 1500 4x4 Laramie SLT Quad 5.9 103000 miles. |

Re: 99 Ram Overdrive Problem
Well if your a DIYer do a pan drop and change the filter and fill it up with ATF+4. See if there is any junk in the pan indicating a trans failure. Or you could have an emmisions problem such as a plugged CAT.

Re: 99 Ram Overdrive Problem
Thanks, gonna give it a try this weekend.
Had the Truck for a little over a year now, and have no idea when of if the prior owner had the filter & fluid changed. Thanks, Ron |

Re: 99 Ram Overdrive Problem
Don't change out all of the fluid on this trans, as in a Jiffylube trans flush or something similar. Just change the filter and top it off with ATF+4 fluid only. There are lots of stories about guys with 100k+ on these 46RE or RH (auto's with OD) transmissions with unknown service history, who do the big service and think they are helping themselves. They then find that the old fluid has put some deposits on trans internals and the new fluid breaks these loose and kills the trans.
Yours sounds like a clogged CAT to me.
