What to do with a 99' Solara?
I'm about to get my hands on a 99 Solara that is completely stock. No mods on this car at all. Now I wanna spice this baby up. Can I get a turbo installed? If so, how much (ballpark guessestimate)? Also, the car has over 100k in miles on it, but they're mostly highway miles. So being that it has so many miles is getting a turbo installed a good idea? Thanks!

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
There are plenty of mods that you can do to a Solara to give it a little more of a "punch". If it has a 1MZ-FE (V6), you can have a TRD Supercharger installed on it, and if it's only a 5SFE (I4), then you can have a turbo put on it. As long as the engine is in fine running condition, and has a complete tune up performed on it before installing any major engine upgrades, it should be fine and not kill out on you.

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
whoa... someone actually responded. I posted this back in Oct and since then I have discovered that the only FI mod I can install is the TRD supercharger. There are no turbo chargers made for the Solara, unless you have custom made (which means $$$). Anyway, I'm going with a TRD overhaul, suspension, brakes, supercharger, maybe the exhaust ( looking into other exhausts). It justs a shame that Solaras', and Camrys' I'm guessin too, aren't modification friendly.

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
Camrys and Solaras can be modification friendly, but in most cases, it calls for some fabrication on your behalf. If you're running a four banger in your Solara you can buy a turbo kit for it, and with a little persuasion you can get it installed. But I would recommend the TRD supercharger, since it's a direct bolt-on replacement of the intake manifold, plus it gives you the best bang for your buck. Anyways, best of luck to you, and if you need any more help, let me know.

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
I got a 6 banger and I am going with the TRD supercharger. Maybe in the future I'll have a turbo kit installed. Problem is the Solara hasn't really been geared for a turbo. I don't wanna hurt the car.

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
The supercharger will probably be your best bet since you said the car isn't quite set up for a turbo. The supercharger is a direct bolt on, with no modification whatsoever.

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
I figure your best bet would be to check out the TRD website to see if you can order them there. If not, you could always contact your local Toyota dealer, or check eBay if you're really desperate.

Re: What to do with a 99' Solara?
Sup peeps! I'm in the process of deckin out my 99 solara. So far I got the basics down like rims, sound system, exhaust, intake, lights but still want more. People have told me the best way is to probably go with platinum spark plugs and a new fuel pressure regulator. Another thing i'm lookin into are hedders. ANY ADVICE ON MODS I CAN DO???
