Trans problem
Repeated 5th gear problems at 200K mi
I have been told by 2 different trans shops that it is common to have a problem with 5th gear in G20's. The car was fine for the first 176K and then the problems started. When in 5th, the car pops out of gear. Does anyone know about this? What have you done to resolve it? My car runs awesome and I want to keep it. AAMCO fixed the clutch and then the 5th gear went. |

It's a common problem with early SR20 powered 5 speeds. G20.net might still be down so you might try http://www/sr20forum.com/
Some people get a later model 95-96 G20 transmission to fix it and some people go with a 200SX SE-R transmission with limited slip. In that case, you'd have to swap out the driver's side halfshaft with one from a G20t. Having yours repaired might work too but there are lots of expensive parts to replace and even then, you're at the mercy of the mechanics expertise. |

Re: Trans problem
Yeah 5th gear popout is a common problem. Go to www.jgycustoms.com, they sell a kit to fix it.
