1997 Geo Prizm Seat Belt Locking Up

Recently, my wife's 1997 Geo Prizm's seat belt has been locking up. It seems like the teeth are caught and you have to pull it one gear tooth at a time until it finally comes out far enough to be latched. Has anyone had a similar problem and can anyone provide a rememdy short of saying "open it up to see if anything is wrong with the assembly?"

Re: 1997 Geo Prizm Seat Belt Locking Up

Mine does the same thing - dealer said it had to be replaced - but I now pull it OUT ( slow and steady towards the steering wheel ) it still catches sometimes - but not as often - ALSO this is NOT a warantee item ( if you can beleive that ) it is also "non-essential" - tell that to the Police here in Virginia if your not wearing it!!

This must be a chronic problem with the Geo Prizm 1997. While under warranty, I had dealers replace the driver's side seatbelt three times, after it would get jammed so bad I couldn't get it loose no matter what. The third time, they did finally get it right. Even so, it occaisionally sticks, but a few careful tugs will get it loose again.
