WHat is the short squeaking sound when I start by 96 buick up?

Hello once again,

Simple question perhaps

WHen I start the car up , when the started is cranking the engine, the motor makes a very short squeak just before injectors continue with running the engine.

I am interested to know whats the sound. if something is loose i want to tighten it. just replaced the starter.

THank yall.

maybe it's a belt or something, possibly a fan belt.

Its also possibly a dented or misaligned inspection cover on the tranny. If the teeth of the flexplate contact the cover, it makes a squeaky metallic scraping noise.

Hey

Are the cover's bolts usually accessable from the top of the engine, w/o raising the car way up.

Nope, but you can get to them laying on your back with the car on jackstands. Take the cover off and start the car. If the noise goes away, that was your problem. Its fine to leave that cover off.
