Re: How is everybody's fuel economy?

MY 2004 SE has less than 1000 miles on it and I am VERY unhappy about the mileage. It squeaks out 15 around town. Other than that it is a fantastic auto. One of the major factors in going for the Murano was the 19/24 MPG. If I had to do it all over again I would probably buy the Toy Highlander. They know how to get mileage out of a car.

Does the SE eat more gas than SL? I am considering in getting one with the manual shifting capability. And they said it's 20/25.

I've had my Murano for about 18 months and it has about 15,000 miles. I still get about 20.5 mpg.

I use the "plus" gasoline. If you're running regular unleaded, it may be hurting your gas mileage.

Murano milage

I've had my Murano for nearly a year and a half. The milage during the first four months or so was terrible - 13 to 16 mpg. However, it gradually got better. Now it averages 18.5 mpg highway and city combined. I run "regular" (87 oct) in it and I track every tank of gas that goes through it. Typical highway milage is 20 to 21 mpg, yet the best I have ever experienced was 23.2 mpg. My other vehicle is a Chevy 1/2 ton pickup, so I know things could be worse.

I just got my SE 3 weeks ago and have already driven 1500mi. Mostly hwy with quite a bit of city driving. I've been getting 21.6 consistently with my all time best being about 22.1. I use mid grade gas (89 oct) and have noticed a significant improvement on performance over 87 oct.

03 SE with thirty thousand on the dial. Best to date at 7000 ft elevation @ 65 mph is 33.5 mpg. Doesn't like anything over that for economy. All stock except for Syns.

Re: How is everybody's fuel economy?

After hearing some of the poor milage reports I was elated to see my 2005 SL AWD averaging 23.8 mpg highway and 22.1 mpg city/highway mix (35/65). I have less than 200 miles though. Jeff

Incidently, I was told by my dealer and other automotive forum wonks that 87 octane works fine for everyday driving. Two exceptions were discussed, 1) If you are a Mario Andretti driver, 91 octane will insure maximum performance from the DOHC V6., 2) You may "ping" the valves with 87 octane, usually noted by a knocking sound coming from the engine, similar to a coin being sucked in your household vacuum. This condition is not fatal but will harm engine if "ping" continues day-in and day-out. This "ping" has not been noted by folks who drive normally.

I plan to use 87 octane first, then a trial run of 91 octane for comparison. For me it's not a concern since both octanes have had identical prices for the ten years I have lived here in Mid-Missouri. Currently our gas is priced at $2.10 per gallon. Jeff

If there the same price I would always go with the high test. Here we have three grades. I use the upper two. The ping your talking about usually happens at WOT or heavy load on the engine.
