I think they are talking about blocking off the coolant that goes into the throttle body. It might free up 1 hp or so but your car will not idle right either, b/c the Fast Idle Thermovalve will have no warm/hot coolant running through it.

IMO, weight reduction is one of the few "cheap" mods that's worth any effort. Depending on the extent to which you reduce the weight of your car, however, you can sacrfice a considerable amount of comfort, i.e. increased vibration and rattling (particularly in older cars), wind-noise, lack of a good sound system, interior aesthetics, etc. It all depends on how much comfort and practicallity you're willing to sacrifice for the sake of speed.

well, the thing is, that the coolant is hot as shit. pumping it through the throttle body heats up the TB, and makes the air coming into the intake manifold hot, which is bad. rerouting it away from the throttle body makes everything cooler. here is a little picture that might help you understand

just make each of those hoses pull a u-turn and your done.

just dont do it if you live in northern states, as your TB can freeze open and you wont be able to deccelerate.

whtteg, i dont know if all cars have that valve you were talking about, but i did it on my car with no downsides at all. could you explain how the valve works please?

Re: Cheap Speed?

DIY is always good if done properly and you have more time than money.

IMO you get the most for your money in finding good deals. Just start saving and wait for good deals to come by on the part you want.

Cheap engine swaps is another way to go. You would be suprized what individuals (not salvage yards) will let totaled cars go for, this is the best way to do an engine swap (if the engine wasnt damaged in the wreck) because you get almost everything you need for the swap, if not all. I almost got my hands on a b16a this way for $200+towing on a rear end colision wrecked car. These deals are hard to find but they do exist.

Re: Cheap Speed?

I vote weight reduction! I have seen a stock 89 civic DX sedan beat a turbo teggy. It had only the motor, a seat, and some body peices. The int was completely taken out, inc dash. The glass was taken out. the trunk, lights, bumpers, ect was gone. The guy w/ the teggy was embarrassed as shit.

Im tempted to call bs-cause i sure as hell wouldnt want to be the one driving the dx with no windshield at the speeds it would take to beat a turbo teg

Re: Cheap Speed?

Ok so I am going to run my mouth once again. Why yank the interior out of a good car? If you want a race car start with a race car. If you want to lose comfort thats your deal, but I've already removed the god awful fart pipe off of my accord and think that extra 1 hp isn't worth the head ache I had after driving it for 30 min. Plus stereos are a nice thing to have unless you think your ragged out car presents a better image than a clean car. Now if you ask me 100lbs of interior is worth keeping. Where are you supposed to put the chicks that want to ride w/ you if you have no seats? I mean can anyone tell me why ricers put rear spoilers on front wheel drive cars? Does the 18' tall wing creat drag? Lift? Neg lift to take traction off your power wheels? Add weight?
Cheap speed : a toy 87-93 mustang. 5 grand for a 12 second car. Gears, Slicks, Bottle
One more question WTF is this on lets get technical?

Re: Cheap Speed?

easy get huge ass knife car jack dude in lambo.... I think best it would be cutting weight for free even though i don't like ripping crap out eg a/c radio. rather spend some $$ and get a sexy C/F hood. I do think to go fast you gotta spend though but how much depends on how much you know like 700 or less for turbo kit DIY.
