Arrow 97 auto trans stuck in park

Anyone know how to bypass the brake-shift lever safety interlock (thanks to the Consumer Products Safety Commission - our tax dollars at work) so I can get the vehicle to the shop for repair of this intermittent demon possessing my Trooper?

Re: 97 auto trans stuck in park

I had the same problem yesterday and found that if you remove the cover around the shifter (4 phillips screws) and work from the passenger side, you can disconnect the neutral safety switch cable. Once it is disconnected, with the key OFF, you should be able to move to Neutral to start the car. Worked for me yesterday. I still havent found the root cause but at leaset the car is driveable. I can still Put it in park when I stop, I just have to remember to put in N with the key OFF to start it. Checking now to see if this is related to the brake lite switch. Some Honda models won't move from park if the brake lite switch fails. Good luck
