I just got an Idea. It was based around the fact that Porsche will soon hit 1000 regarding their model numbers. So I thought for a bit of a new name but nothing clicked until this. What if Porsche redid all of their past models with today's technology? Think about, the 944 "Retro".

That would be pretty freakin cool, but I don't think it would work. Not to do ALL their models over. That would take forever, and it wouldn't be like anything special...well, not as special as a new model. And, if you think of it, Porsche already has "retro" models in the lineup! Look at the legendary 911, going back to 1965 for the production model. The turbo....Dates back to '75! The boxster: Clearly inspired by past open topped models......550 Spyder, 914. Looks like Porsche's not doing too bad!

P.S. I belive (by looking at things) that Porsche's going to start naming their models with actual names instead of what will soon be four digit number codes. Think about it....Cayenne, Carrera GT. That's about all the evidence that we have, though.

Too bad....

I enjoyed the numbers. It identified the car by engine & transmission style.

All good things come to an end...

Yah, well, Porsche 1015 just doesn't sound the same as the 3 digit codes. :silly2:

Well they could just add a zero, like the Porsche 9140. As for retroness, I mean take an old 914 and do everything to it to make it up to taday's standards with (Obviously) a new engine but keep it small and make sure the body isn't changed that much.

Tough one. I kind of like the idea, of recreating their older style vehicles with modern technology, sort of like Chrysler in building the PT Cruiser and resurrecting the 300M. But, I also think that Seb's got a good point, in that calling a Porsche a 944 "Retro," for example, will kind of take away from the simple beauty of a numeric model. Just call it a 944, and people can insert the "Retro" if they so choose.

Porsche did do some number & letter designations. The 356, the orginal Porsche, was classified as a A,B or C model. Maybe they could do something on that order without giving us a 1015 type Porsche number?
Personally, I would jump on a retro model if they brought back an older, up-to-date model. What about the 356M? The M standing for Millinium?
