Hi, my name is Chili and I am new to this site. I have been reading your threads and I have the same problem with the codes 171 and 174 on my 2002 V6 LS. Please send me PDF file on the PCV elbow. My e-mail address is curtis.davis2@hotmail.com.

Re: codes P0171, P0174 Lincoln LS V6"

Hi Rod,

I just wanted to say thank you for the info. I tackled this project yesterday and it was an overall success, thanks to you. My engine is running smoothly again, it was indeed the pcv elbow as i suspected. I changed the pcv valve, all gaskets, and spark plugs while i was in there and noticed that the 2 rear plugs had oil on them, but I replaced them as usual anyways as i was limited on time and needed my car today. After getting everything back together and driving it without the check engine light on for about 5 miles, the light came back on. Still running well, but pulling the same codes as before. I am thinking this is possibly because of those plugs and/or coils. What are your thoughts? I have seen from some of your other posts you have brought up the battery as a possible culprit. Mine is from 06 i think (bought this car used this past summer). Do you think this may apply in my case? Also, you are right about those torque specs, they should be in in-lbs vs. Ft-lbs. The conversion from newton meters tells all. Thanks again!

I'm glad to hear your engine is running smoothly!

As for the codes, you're still getting the P0171 and P0174? If the battery goes back to 2006, then yeah, you may as well replace it as it will be money well spent anyway. I'd also suggest you carefully check all the intake air tubing and vacuum lines that would have been touched during the PCV elbow repair, including the one for the baro sensor on the back of the upper intake.

Good luck!

Yup, those are the codes. I will check out all of my tubing...but i am pretty sure they are solid. I was very thorough in putting things back together. I'll also replace the battery. Could the plugs or coils cause this error code?

So, have you checked the PCV plumbing?

It's under the upper half of the intake manifold. Rod has a PDF describing how to replace the elbow and PCV valve that he can e-mail to you. Send him a PM with your e-mail address. I'd remove the e-mail address from your post unless you like SPAM.
I'd also replace the other six coils and plugs while I have the upper half of the manifold off. Also, I hope you replaced the three spark plugs under the three coils that you did replace.

The e-mail is on it's way to you. Also, as Joegr suggested, I deleted your e-mail address from the above post.

If you put a tourniquet on the pcv air intake port of intake, it will block all un metered air, a oil catch can with a external filter canbe used for PCV system.

Problem + Solution = Get R done!
