The Newbies Guide to NFSU

Scanning some NFSU threads, i found that there where alot of people who where having problems with different issues.
Please add your ideas and strategies if you feel like it

Here are some points that you might want to consider, being a newb or not.

- CORNERING. When playing online, I tend to notice a lot of people who barge into corners without braking and\or even letting of the gas!
Coming into the corner with the brakes on and accelerating out again is much faster than crashing into the wall!
There are a lot of corners, and a lot of variables, and a lot of different styles you can follow.
I personally like to break earlyish coming into the corner, then get on the throttle in mid-corner.
Another thing to consider when cornering is traffic.
Nothing bites more than leading on the last lap of a long race and loosing due to a traffic collision!
Try getting a line that gives you a good line of sight should anything occur mid corner.
You should always be able to change direction and turn away from approaching traffic, whereever you are.

- NOS. NOS is an important aspect of racing in NFSU, and should be used correctly, and how to use it varies in the different racing types.
Here are typical moments when you should use NOS:
Passing an opponent
On a long straight
Speeding up those gearshifts (drag mode only)
In 6th gear in drag
For accelerating out of trouble. (like when you just crashed into some traffic)
When not to use NOS
When you are leading the race. Save it for when you really need it!
GOING INTO CORNERS! I notice alot of people on the internet use it going into sharp hairpins. Use it on the straights, where it will have most effect.
Early in drag races (first three gears) it could lead to bad gearshifts [e.g overrev]
In the middle of a corner, which usually leads to a crash.
In the middle of a big traffic jumbo

Passing\blocking techniques

When passing somebody, look for mistakes that they make, places where they often make a bad turn (the classic passing oppurtunity)
Drafting is a good technique when passing, but it does change the way the car handles acceleration-wise. Dont get caught offguard.
When following somebody, dont concentrate too much on the car you are tailing, and use different lines. Using different lines can make you exploit their mistakes better. Concentrating too much on the car in front of you could lead to your crashing into some traffic that you easily could have avoided.
I have often tricked people into crashing by blocking them, forcing them to draft me right before corners and giving them unwanted speed. Have the rearview mirror option turned ON, as is a great help.

Starts (both circuit, sprint, and drag)

Having the needle bouncing off the rev limiter doesnt the fastest start.
Experiment with different vehicles with different degrees of tuning to find the "sweet" spot on the powerband.
When drag racing, the first three shifts are the hardest to nail, and the most important. If you get the first three perfect, it will be a big advantage later.

Crashing out your opponents.

Nothing is as infuriating as being crashed out by your opponent.
Blocking people, forcing them into nearby traffic, or pushing them to clip a wall is a cheesey, dirty, and if pulled of effectively, very good way to win


Gearing

Auto's are easier, and means you can concentrate better on your lines and your opponents.
I would reccomend learning to use a manual, as it eventually becomes an instinct and you wont think about it, and it will make you faster.


Pyschological aspect

Yes, there is a mental part to NFSU, especially in multiplayer.
First thing, NEVER, EVER, give up.
If you give up, you wont win. It gives you a 0% chance.
There is always a chance your opponent wipes out.
When doing tough races like race 95 (im still stuck on that one) ) you should feel relaxed when you race.
If you are pissed off, tired of restarting a hundred times over, you arent going any faster.
Take a break and do something worthwhile.

Yes it is frustrating online but its fun to do when playing the game. But if you get someone like that, hey, an eye for an eye.

I don't like drifting with the supra, it gets to wild.

i say what i say because drifting in nfsu is so unrealistic, never in my life have i got pissed for such things. My way of seeing it is: if you are a big car enthusiasts then you will hate this game, just because you can rice out bassically anything doesnt make a game real good. Its about who can simulate real life driving.

Your right it isn't very realistic. But I consider it a fun game to play. But I like the Gran Turismo games and Project Gothem Racing 2 better. But one of my top fave is the Nascar games,

Yes GT3 is a great game and I can't wait till for comes out. But Project Gothem Racing 2 is a very good game.
