Alarm Problems

Hi,

I recently bought my first Alfa a couple of months ago. I've had Escort Cabriolets for the last 10 years so there's a bit of adjustment to go through. Can't wait for the summer when I can get that hood down.

The recent spate of extra cold weather did something funny to my alarm. I thought at first that the actual door mechanism was broken but I eventually found that on pressing the alarm button it was unlocking and then locking again. I had to press the door button before it relocked before I could get in. No problems with starting the car but when I got to work I activated the alarm but also had to use the key to lock the door. By the evening it was all working normally again.

This happened for the next few days but has been alright since.

I haven't had time to phone my dealership about this but I thought I'd post on here and see what other people's experiences are of this.

So, anyone else had the same thing?

Sounds like you have a lock motor going bad. WHen they get cold, they stop working but sometimes will work again once things get warm and loose again.

Re: Alarm Problems

my partner is on her second Alfa Spider and she is now considereing getting shot of it. The first one she had had problems with the alarm and with locks freezing on frosty mornings. Her current, later model, does exactly the same. It has been back to garage on at least 4 occasions to sort it out, and of course it always works fine when it gets there doesn't it.
The alarm is at best intermittent and it has got to the stage now where she can't actually rely on being able to get into the car.
