Re: Coolant flush procedure
Final words on the Coolant Replacement
Turns out it wasn't necessary to add Sealer Pellets to the radiator. They were only a few bucks anyway. Just as well and I believe what the tech's are saying about that stuff. Lunched tank stud Had bought some hose samples about a month ago and cut one to size. Got around to installing it the other day. Here are some before and after photos. That should hold Nicely done... Dude! Wrap-up You might think this is overkill.. but I take a lot of photos so there's no mistaking where components went. It's easy to make a virtual webpage with these message boards, so why not post away with the pics! Everyone likes to see photos of people's projects!! -Ed Last edited by edwinn; 08-12-2012 at 08:39 AM. |

Re: Coolant flush procedure
After roughly 1-1/2 months, the inside of the recovery tank is seen in good shape after a BATTLE to get the coolant flushed or `exchanged.´ The cooling system had been neglected and I was, of course playing catch-up with it. Further, the intake manifold have been replaced with new gasket/seals and there was some residual debris stuck in the reservoir line. I almost feel like pulling the heater core and back-flushing it!!
Photos of tank inside walls after ~6 weeks In the second photo, sloshing and splashing is observed on the walls. I'll probably have it serviced again in a year or so if the tank gets coated with CRUD during that time, and swab it out aGaiN with the coat hanger tool. In hindsight, the tank SHOULD be removed and flushed every 4 - 5 years IMHO to keep the fasteners from corroding or freezing. Actually the entire system should be flushed according to the service schedule and the shop manual. Not easy to do all this if you've lived in apartments though. -Ed Last edited by edwinn; 08-20-2012 at 11:09 AM. |

Re: Coolant flush procedure
1997 Riviera - 3.8 Liter, L36 - 143,204 miles
Well.. a few years have gone by and it's been 34.5 months and 11,846 miles since the last coolant flush. Had planned to flush it again in 3 years, which will be early June 2015. Am playing catch-up now since the Intake Manifold/Gasket job in 2009. Will have a couple photos of the recover tank for comparison soon. -Ed |
