'95 Pathfinder - Cruise Control rotating Hub contacts

My cruise control on my '95 Pathfinder won't "Set" unless I rotate the wheel to the
left or right slightly.

I thus assume that the Rotating Ring Switch Plate at the top of the steering wheel column is
worn or fouled close to the 'straight ahead' position.

This vehicle has no Air Bag in the Steering Wheel.

The PDF Manual (I have it) does not show any diagram that I can find....

So I took it apart w/o any assistance from anyone here.

PS - Found this Web Link about this problem...

Re: '95 Pathfinder - Cruise Control rotating Hub contacts

I took it apart.
Remove one screw at bottom of Steering Wheel Shroud.
Pull Front Horn Pad off - takes pulling at all 4 corners - wire attached.

Here is what you see underneath the Horn Plate - screws have been removed and the selector Buttons have been removed.

Here is the view with the Horn plate above behind the Steering Wheel

This is what the Horn Switch Plate looks like - I scraped the contacts and applied Zinc Oxide Ointment.
Notice the four pressure clamps that fit into the four rectangular holes above.

This is the Rotating Ring Switch Plate underneath after the Steering Wheel Nut and covering plates had been removed.

Here is the Rotating Ring Switch Plate off of the Steering Wheel. Filthy with hardened grease.
Notice the three spring loaded copper rods that contact the copper rings on the Rotating Ring Switch Plate.
Nicely designed device, in my opinion.

Here is the filth I removed from the Copper rings with Q-Tips, Mineral Spirits, a small screw driver and Kleenex.
Afterward I greased them liberally with axle grease and Zinc Oxide Ointment.

This is the Selector Switch taken apart.
It was fine and needn't have been opened up.

The Spring Loaded Copper Rod for the Horn was worn short (intermittent) - so I drilled
into it with a 5/64ths drill while holding it with a pointed nose pliers and screwed an eenie weenie
brass screw into it and put a dob of solder on the end and filed it smooth.

Now the horn works. I hope the screw doesn't eat up the copper ring.
The solder won't last very long - too soft.
A new rotating switch must cost one's first child to buy - even used....

Haven't tried to see if the Cruise Control works better - maybe tomorrow.
I'm pooped out.....time for a 70 year old man's nap !

Re: '95 Pathfinder - Cruise Control rotating Hub contacts

Terrific post! Loved the pictures, very helpful. Most ppl apparently think You can hear them say "Great job! I appreciate this post, It saved Me a lot of time and answered a lot of my questions."...

The horn quit working on my '95 PF and inspection is coming up next week. Since it still works in certain positions, I'll try cleaning it and hope that is all it needs. With my luck the drill bit would snap off

Any luck finding a replacement for the contact pin?
