03 rio timing belt

I think I lost the timing belt on my '03 Rio. But I never heard any mechanical noises like valves striking pistons. It still turned but just quit running. Breathing sounded off. Have to tear in but if valves struck wouldn't I have heard it?Maybe it lost some teeth off the belt and went out of time but not enough to collide? Hopeful thinking perhaps but I heard nothing. It happened once before on a different car. Lost teeth and it skipped. The Kia is an interference design but like I said I heard no tapping sounds or bang or anything? It has 2 cams.

Thanks for any help.
