AFM/ engine issues.
2012 chev 1500 4wd crew cab w/ 5.3 and 6spd auto. Having issues with my truck, went into the shop with a misfire in the #7 cylinder where they found the plugs were black and fouled with the oil a little low even though i'd just had an oil change a couple days before and it was full when it went in for the change. Got 8 new plugs installed at that time, but the dealer still recommended a full engine replacement as the best fix. Got a 2nd opinion from an independent shop and he also recommended replacement or trading the vehicle in vs fixing it. Any ideas on how much it would cost for engine replacement vs checking the lifters for possible issues and and disabling/deleting the AFM system?

Re: AFM/ engine issues.
To properly delete AFM you need to change the cam and lifters, as well as have it turned off with a programmer.
Its also recommended that you put in a standard flow oil pump and plug the pressure relief valve in the oil pan. If you don't it can actually cause further oil burning. Summit Racing sells delete kits for around $350, but it doesn't include a new camshaft or the tune to delete AFM from the ECU.

Re: AFM/ engine issues.
Thanks for the info. I'm still exploring my options as far as repairing it vs just trading it in for something else that's newer with fewer miles.
