acetone to increase MPG?

I had been reading articles posted at www.AddAcetone.com and greatly intrigued that "acetone in fuel is said to increase mileage...". Has anyone ever had done/tried this? There's even posts at some corollas and older toyotas that it did increase MPG, but no camrys or solaras. Is this true??? They said per 10 gal. of gas filled, 2oz. should be mixed and anything over that will actually drop the MPG. How true are these claims?

Re: acetone to increase MPG?

Some people have claimed to be helped by this. You can try it and find out if it helps you. Don't forget that acetone is a solvent and you may derive some benefit from the acetone cleaning the deposits out of the fuel system, as you would from any cleaner/additive. The real test is whether the old mileage immediately returns when you discontinue adding acetone to the gas.

The most vocal proponent of the use of acetone also sells a mileage meter that he likes to have people buy and use to verify their mileage. This makes me extremely doubtful of his freedom from bias.

YMMV

More of a snake oil fix.
Like the old maget fix.
Some people have said it helps a little on first tank and after that back to the old gas mileage.
Some BG stations had a magical gas that worked just like acetone.
Run a search on AF about it.
There has been several post on it but no help comes out of long term use from it.
