Check your insurance!!!!
Many network forums gave me the advice to check with my insurance agent to be sure my bike was covered under my policy. This is because almost universally, dirtbikes and other motorized, non-street legal, vehicles are EXCLUDED from standard renters and homeowners policies.
I took this advice and was told that my bike was covered by my agent. When I noted this on a forum (I forget which one) I was told that I should get it in writting, because this is NOT standard, and, quite likely, not true. I requested, and received from my agent via fax, confirmation that my bike was covered. As anyone who read my Stolen Bike report knows, my garage was recently pillaged, liberating, among many expensive tools, my 2001 KDX200. When I made my claim the adjuster told me that the motorcycle was NOT included in the policy, as it is standard proceedure to exclude these types of vehicles and insisted that they were not responsible, quoting me the phrase from the poicy. (sure enough, they were right) LUCKILY, I had the fax from my agent (because she convieniently couldnt remeber telling me that,... you guessed it... "its standard policy to exclude those types of vehicles". So, the Insurance Agents insurance company is going to cover it as it was an error on the part of the Agency. CHECK YOUR INSURANCE POLICY BEFORE YOU ARE BUMMING BECAUSE YOUR SWEET RIDE WASN'T COVERED!!! IT IS A UNVERSAL PRACTICE TO EXCLUDE DIRTBIKES FROM STANDARD HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS POLICIES!!! IF YOUR AGENT SAYS YOUR COVERED, GET IT IN WRITTING!!! just some good advice..... RoostRider P.S.- the upshot is that the bike is covered and I get a new one (well, used one to replace it)..... anyone got suggestions? anyone got a sweet used machine to sell me that we can convince the insurance company is close enough to my KDX? Feel free to comment |

Re: Check your insurance!!!!
Hmmmm, I thought everyone already knew that....
I never get mine covered, simply because they're locked up so well. And, the coverage would only be in effect while it's at your house....which for me would be the least likely place for it to get stolen from! |
