93 Lincoln Town Car - Cold Start and Cold Run Issues
I have a 93 Lincoln TC, 4.6L that is having cold start and cold run issues.
I live in the Phoenix AZ area, so the morning "cold" start is about 90 F. Most of the time, it will not start, so you have to treat it as a flooded engine...hold the accelerator to the floor and crank till it starts. It is also stalling out when pulling from a stop for about the first five minutes. No codes. My thought is that either (or both) the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, or the Intake Air Temp Sensor is/are bad. This is faking the PCM into believing that the engine is warm, so the mix is too lean, hence the stalling and hard starting. Had an '88 Camry that had a similar problem, when it got hot here it was a bear to start "cold". No fix for it, it was a programming problem. Once warm, the engine is flawless...no misses, nothing! Any other ideas anyone? Thanks! |

Re: 93 Lincoln Town Car - Cold Start and Cold Run Issues
I just got a '94 a couple weeks ago that was having the same problem. I replaced the mass air flow sensor on mine and it's been doing fine since then (thank God... I was wasting so much gas warming it up). The MAF is expensive ($85), you might want to try clean it first... It's delicate, though, so look up a tutorial if you're not sure how to do it. I've heard of people having the same problem but stemming from the IAC and EGR, too, so try cleaning those out as well.
