Re: <Custom Contest> Mystery?
Really nice work, I like what I see.
I would go for the black belts too |

Black belts it is.
I'd forgotten what fun is is to make belts and I have also never used ribbon for them, so it is taking a bit longer then I hoped. Here's the interior without the belts (and dash). door pulls, E-brake and shifter are CF. The floor and rear deck are flocked and PE speaker grills have been installed. I need to scratch up a belt bar (a bit much for a street car) and finish and install the fire extingisher. The dash still needs a bit of work too.

Re: <Custom Contest> Mystery?
Another one from the back of the closet. A real where are they now.
Right from the box. Some of the other bits. Brembo brakes, an intercooler and an extingisher to add a little color to the interior. The Dash. I had some wip pictures in my last pc that showed the scratch building of the Tach and guage pod. I still don't know how to do the shoulder belts. #12,615 Mods: this one needs a new title "Custom Revell VW New Beetle" would be nice. Thanks mod!

I hate when people bring back threads and then i open them up hoping some new progress is in effect only to realize a noob posted. Not this one!! Glad to see you building it again, i really dig the green interior.

Re: Custom Revell VW New Beetle
Thanks gang. I've been wanting to get back to this one for quite a while.
A face only a mother could love. while trying to decide what fog lamps to use i realized the nose still needed some more work. So, another round of spot putty for most of the car. Boxster mirrors work(?) but they seem really big. I'm afraid to cut them down just yet. I'm going to redo the door handles too, or if I botch the job too badly i can just shave them altogether. I'm still working on building a wing or 2 too. #13,283

Re: Custom Revell VW New Beetle
One project at a time.
Door handles. The molded in handles could be better so... Still need a little sanding on this side. I've been sweating the wing with a couple of different style wings attempted in the past without success. I'd decided to try a cup/RSI style wing next when i remembered that i had a cup die-cast kit in the closet. It's always easer to scratchbuild something when you have one to mock it off of. I wanted an OLFA circle cutter for the project but i just couldn't swing the $25 it cost, luckily i found a nice compass at HomeDepot for only $2.99. The knife cut the plastic better with the back of the blade and made quick work of the first piece of the wing. The back of the wing blade is a couple pieces of flat stock with a bevel cut on the upper edge which will hopefully simplify the shaping/puttying of the inside radias. More to come. What do you think about JDM/DTM carbon fiber outside mirrors? #13,664

Re: Custom Revell VW New Beetle
How did I never think of using a compass for those big circles? It's so obvious!
Awesome!

Re: Custom Revell VW New Beetle
Some more wing work.
Just a skim coat of putty, I cheated a bit and did some shaping on the inside radias with my motor tool. Now on the second set of uprights with the second endplate design as well. I'm still fussing with it, the height, the distance from the body, the shape of the uprights and endplates... But, I like it so far. #13,966

Re: Custom Revell VW New Beetle
Hair club for bugs!
It needed a new look, what do you think? The Boxster mirrors are huge. Some recent posts led me to some extra Revell Mini mirrors. Just the thing, don't ya think? The mounts point a different direction and are a different shape so some work is needed to get them to look at home. I cut some PE brass mesh for the front grills. I'm not sure how i'm going to mount em but i love the look. Something for both ends and a bit in the middle. The wing mounts are pinned to the body with brass wire now. I had the spare roof section out to make a second roof mounted wing, though the plastic in the roof is more than 2mm thick and just won't work. The rear grill turned out to be a bigger pain then i expected too. More to come. #14,334
