Insightful Advice On How To Remove Badges/Emblem adhesive
I had the opportunity to do a little mod today and found it works like a charm. Thought I would pass it on to those who are interested in removing the badges/emblem on the G.
(1) To remove the badges/emblem, first use WD-20 and spray it around them then use dental floss and "saw" them off. (WD-20 helps soften the adhesive thus for easy removal.) (2) Use a dry cloth towel and dry off the WD-20. Get some gasoline (please don't try to suck it out of your car as you might swallow them! ) from your lawnmover or something then apply the gasoline on the adhesive. Let it sits for 30 secs. (Gasoline works very well to remove adhesive or glue.) (3) Find some SOFT PLASTIC with a straighten and sharp edge (plastic cheasel) and scrape off the adhesive. WARNING: using any material that is harder than plastic might scratch your paint!! Re-apply gasoline to adhesive if required. (4) Use a dry towel and wipe off the excess. Repeat Step (3) until done. WARNING: Results might be so beautiful and painless that can cause one to have a grinning-faces syndrome. The whole process should not take you longer thatn 15 mins. If you're doing this during the winter, use a hair dryer and warm both contacting surfaces for better adhesion. Cheers. jIm

Glad to hear you got the problem rectified. Warning though, you might scratch your paint even more if the adhesive really sticks to the paint when you try to remove it in the future.

f-that, heres what u gotta do. go out to the local hardwear store and find yourelf a rubber eraser like wheel you can put in a power drill. then just rip the emblem off and go at it with gentle pressure with the wheel. this thing is amazing. it will pull off ANY glue, ANY sticker, basicly anything you want to get off your car it will pull it off with ease. after i was done stripping my car, i used a cleaner wax to polish the spot, looks perfect!

Wheres my hairdryer???
i dunno bout all those chemicals on my car, but i found just using a hairdryer on high works for softening the glue.

If anyone wants to send me their logos that they pulled off, I'd love it!

Not sure about all the crazy ideas, but all i did was use that old fashion soap and water, soaked it, soaked it and pulled it off slowly, and no sticky substance left on the car....

not to say that is the only way to remove logos.
i don't find soap work as effective as gasoline or engine oil when removing "goo". but whatever works for you, go for it. keep in mind, cost effective and painless effort!

OK.. I have to agree I dont know about using gasoline on paint.
Here's what I did on my friend's Ford Focus and it worked perfect: Heat up the badge with a hair dryer for a minute or two. Use dental floss to remove the badge. (We actually got it soft enough that we could move the badge a bit, so we just peeled it off) Then use some Goo-Gone to remove any sticky stuff. |
