Take off coolant cap(when not hot)and run see if u can tell if there is a flow. Coolant level should drop when thermostat opens. Could have air in system, or bad waterpump. IF COOLANT IS MOVING YOU MAY HAVE A COOLING FAN ISSUE

Re: 1999 contour overhating thermostat has been changed

I had the same problem with my girlfriends car. The fan would cut in but it would still get hot and then it would either stall or be very sluggish.

I changed the fan temp control switch and the engine temp gauge and it seems to be working better but still have a a minor overheating issue on really hot days.

You should also see if there is a bunch of dirt and bugs stuck between the tranny cooler and the radiator. I blew this out from the bottom and you wouldn't believe the crap that came out.

Re: 1999 contour overhating thermostat has been changed

Well my 98 v6 doesn't heat up but my light for the coolant stay constanly on.
  • Water pump belt snapped
  • Caused my coolant reseroir to break
  • Caused car to overheat
  • I had to replace the thermostat, tempature sensor, reservoir, and belt.
Light turned back off for about a week and came back on after that. It will turn off sometimes after driving for 5 minutes. Any ideas
