Question about Tamiya TS-89 for Redbull RB8

Hi guys, I am new to the forum and have tonnes of questions to ask...
Hope you guys don't mind..

I am building 1/24 Revell Redbull RB8.
Heard from others that Tamiya TS-89 may be too light...I am thinking if it would be better if use a black base primer?

Any experience with the Zero paint or the Gravity colour? I use Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1000, are they compatible?

I am also thinking of spraying on the Camel yellow on top of the Redbull blue for the nose and the intake areas. Do I need to prime those areas with white/grey primers before putting the yellow on?

Thanks guys in advance!

Chris

Zero paints are amazing but strong smelling. Wouldn't recommend 2k clear, too Hazardous to health. The 1k is great, slightly softer but more give in it as well.

I would think white primer under yellow and grey under blue but I'm no expert

You could either use a dark base colour/primer or add some small amount of black to the TS-
89, assuming you have an airbrush of course..?? Either would make the colour darker.
Zero Paints are great and very easy to use. You can spray them over Mr Surfacer with no problems.
For the Camel Yellow areas, I would spray those first, free hand, without any masking, over white primer. Then mask the yellow before application of the blue. If you have darkened the blue you can use it straight over the white primer/yellow areas with no need to apply a dark undercoat. Thats the way I would approach it...

Great advice, thanks!
Yes, I have got airbrush.
I think I will go for grey primer, free hand Camel Yellow, then mask the yellow and go for a black primer, then TS-89.
Hope it'll work.

Any other suggestions, guys?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about Tamiya TS-89 for Redbull RB8

I think Camel yellow will be too dark. I built mine a couple years ago and don't remember for certain but think I used Chrome yellow (TS-47). And yes you are better off painting the yellow, I tried using the nose decal originally but it cracked as soon as I tried bending it.

Thanks Mike! I double checked my references and you are correct! Chrome yellow should be a better match for the car's color. I just decanted my TS-47 Chris

Shoot the yellow over white primer.
