car revvs itself while in park

My car seemed to drive home fine but when I put it in park to open my garage it started revvin really fast and the check engine light came on. I could barely get it into drive and then it didnt hardly want to stop once in drive. Anybody have this issue?

Really sounds like it's unsafe to drive. You didn't give the year. You need a code reader. Most auto parts stores will read the code for you but it's not a definite "replace this" and all will be fixed. It's a diagnostic tool.

Re: car revvs itself while in park

ok mechanic took it in to look at it, they came up with a code 11 and they couldnt find a vacuum leak. They claimed it could be the timing belt, but I replaced that back in 2002 and I have only put on 25,000 miles since then. So could the timing belt really be bad if it isnt that old? Thanks for any help that u can give me

I would think even if your timing belt jumped a tooth it should not have a high idle

Re: car revvs itself while in park

The car seems to be working fine now so I am not sure what caused the incident or if it will come back again
