Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hi,
today i began with the wet sanding procedur. I put some contrast color on it,and began to work at the big areas. After the big areas i must make the smal radiuses. The first sanding was made with 600 wet sanding paper. After that,i make a new layer of primer, and again sanding it with 1200 paper. This goes on until the surface looks good enough. Kind Regards Christian |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Looking great Christian! I'm with the other guys about using thin plastic sheet for the grills...you could also use a thinner sheet as spacers and stack them sideways to get the gaps even. My only other idea is to find a friend with a milling machine, 0.5mm cutters and really good machining skills!

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hello,
here is the finished body of the capri. Everything is on the right place right now. I made the lines of the bodyparts where i cut them when i have laminated it. At the front i used a wrong size first on the right side, but now its ok. And a pic from the back side. Now its all done. When i have more time for modeling,i will make the parts of laminat for the body parts. Meanwhile i made a mould for the seat.I used a seat from the porsche 935,made some changes, and put them in resin. Now i can made as much i need, because there is the ford c100 waiting for his seat. Kind Regards Christian |

Very nice.
I hope to try out some of Your techniques myself in the future. Good example in many ways

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hi,
today i started with the bodywork mould. I used surface resin first on the roof with columns. After that,i used the real laminate resin and put the laminate tissue on it. I hope it all works like i thought it would? Tomorow i will be smarter. Just a pic of the seats and the rear wings. Kind Regards Christian |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hi Christian,
I read the suggestions on F1M regarding your choice of products for making the fibreglass mould. If I can add my 2 cents worth, I would suggest laying down fibreglass tissue before the matt, or the cloth. The tissue soaks up the resin easily and curves into the tight corners well. Maybe try the tissue idea on another part to see if you like the results? |

Hi, mhmm...maybe i got something wrong? What have i done? I put the surface resin on the body. Let them dry for 15min. After that i put a layer of laminat resin on the body. Take the cloth and press them on the body. Than comes another layer of laminat resin on it. That layer is important that the resin goes into it. So i got an shield over the body. Thatīs the way i have learned it at work as an industrial model-builder for 25 years now. I think i did not understand what you mean with laying fiberglass down before the matt? I only got that laminat tissue and nothing else? I dont know what you mean with this? Help, plaese! Christian |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Christian, you're not doing anything wrong mate...don't panic!
In my limited experience of moulding 1:1 car parts if you use a cloth first, the weave pattern can sometimes be seen on the surface of your mould through the gelcoat. If it's bad, it will be copied from the mould surface onto the model piece - tissue give less texture to effect the gelcoat. Not a big problem, and if it is reproduced on the model, a light surface sand will remove it. BTW, Ferrari F40's and Alfa SZ's were famous for the carbon cloth texture being seen under the paint - I knew a guy that had his nearly new SZ resprayed, as it the paint drove him nuts!!! |

Re: Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1/12 Scratch
Hello,
today i made the last negativ mould for the capri. Here is an overview over all the moulds i need. Everything was easy to made without any big problems.Only the part at the back for the rearlights made some trouble. I think i must fill the deeper parts when i make the "bodypart". Here is the roof from the capri.I must cut out the windows and make the outer parts to the markings on the laminate. Again i used the combination of surface resin+laminat resin+laminat matt. I thought i could use only laminate resin+matt, but i got a lot of bubbles and so i changed my way. Meanwhile i ordered some stuff from rainbow10.So i got some rims from the porsche 934 and some engine parts from the caterham 1/12 scale cars on the way to me. Christian |
