Dealer won’t sell me loaner car?

I am looking for a very specific car that is hard to find. I’m set on specific color and model and willing to wait for it, however, a local dealer supposedly has exactly what I’m looking for but it’s currently being used as a loaner for their service dept. I was told this by their sales dept. I asked if I could see it and he said “it won’t be ready for sale for 2 or 3 more months” I then asked, if you have a buyer seriously interested, why wouldn’t you sell it and just replace the loaner with something else? He said because they don’t have a comparable one available to give to service dept.

This just seems really weird to me... Assuming this car is what he says it is, I would buy it this week... but they are willing to let me walk because they are using it as a loner? 🤔.

Should I go over the sales guy head and ask to speak to the floor manager about it? And yes, now I’m wondering if this loaner even really exists...

Appreciate thoughts and advice

Thanks!

Re: Dealer won’t sell me loaner car?

Dealers probably get special discounts on certain cars from the factory. That loaner car is one. If they paid less for it they would have to wait until another factory deal comes on a similar car l.
